Service
PTSD and mental health
Post-traumatic stress is a recognised response to events that overwhelmed the ordinary limits of coping. It can be assessed and treated, and you are not required to describe more than you choose.
What we can help with
- Intrusive memories, flashbacks and nightmares
- Sleep difficulties and persistent exhaustion
- Hypervigilance, startle responses and difficulty relaxing
- Low mood, guilt, shame and loss of meaning
- Anger, irritability and strain in close relationships
- Alcohol or substance use that has become a way of coping
What an assessment involves
A first appointment is a conversation. We ask about your current difficulties, sleep, daily functioning, safety and what you want to change. We use structured questionnaires only when they add something useful, and we explain what each one is for.
You may bring a family member or a support person. You can ask for breaks, ask us to change the subject, or end the appointment.
How treatment is planned
After the assessment we write an individual plan with you: what we propose, why, what alternatives exist, how progress will be reviewed and what to do if things get harder. Plans are revisited and changed when needed. We do not guarantee results, and we will tell you honestly if we think another service is a better fit.
